Not every smoke detector or fire alarm is wired directly to the fire department. The only fire alarms connected to, or that report to the Fire Department, come from most commercial buildings, public buildings, or apartment buildings that contain 6 or more dwellings. If a smoke detector is activated at your house or apartment be sure to call 9-1-1 to report it. Never assume someone else has called to report the alarm.
You can visit The Salem Fire Department Permit site to sign up for a any fire related permits including a smoke certificate.
Fire prevention week is every week! It's important to do your part to prevent fires from occurring. Be sure to replace outdated smoke detectors and replace batteries when needed. Officially however, this year fire prevention week starts October 4th and ends October 10th. You can visit The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) website for more information on keeping you and your family safe!
